Why do I need temperature controlled packaging?
Fresh or frozen foods need to be kept within specified temperature ranges during transport. Bulk shipments are often made using refrigerated transport, but for smaller shipments, particularly those using couriers, this is not possible. Using temperature controlled packaging will help keep the products within the correct temperature range.
How many ice packs will I need?
The amount of ice required varies according to several factors, such as outside temperature, time in transit, weight and type of product, packing temperature etc. We are always happy to offer advice for specific situations so please feel free to contact us with your query.
How quickly will my order arrive?
Orders received by noon will normally be despatched the same day. An order received after this will typically be despatched the following day. Samples and parcels are sent by Parcel Post. Pallets are shipped on a 48-hour delivery as standard, but we also offer a 24 hour delivery for an additional charge.
Do you deliver throughout the UK?
We can deliver throughout the UK. If you require a delivery to certain areas (e.g.Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Islands), our rates may vary from those listed on the online shop but you will be advised of this before the order is shipped. |
Which size of box should I use?
Our list details the different sizes we offer as standard. The Poly boxes are described as "6kg" "20kg" etc as these are the traditional terms in the fishing industry, where many of our boxes are used.
The list gives both internal and external dimensions of each box. Once you have confirmed the overall size of the products to be shipped, together with an allowance for ice, please check the list to see the nearest size available. Bear in mind that bubble wrap can be used as a void filler if there is not an exact match.
If you are in any doubt about the correct size please do not hesitate to contact us for advice. Remember that samples can be ordered from our online shop if you would like to check the size before ordering a larger quantity.
Is it safe to order online?
Yes, our shop is fully secure. All transactions processed through the SCA Online shop are fully encrypted by our 128bit secure server. This gives you the highest level of protection possible whenever you use credit cards to make a purchase on the Internet. All credit card details submitted are encrypted and stored on a Protx secure server. Details are deleted once a transaction is complete.
I don’t see the size I require. Do you have any others?
Depending on the type of packaging, we can offer customised packs (PE foam liners) or can discuss the steps required to produce a specific Poly Box. We are also continually revising our range so please contact us in the first instance to discuss your requirements. |
I'd like my company details on some boxes. Can you arrange this?
We can personalise Poly boxes with print or labels, and also offer printed cartons subject to minimum order quantities. Please call or email us for further details.
Are the packs environmentally friendly?
“Environmentally friendly” is a very broad term which different people interpret in different ways. We have therefore listed a few basic facts below.
We offer two types of temperature controlled packaging. Both are made from materials which are classified as plastics, and one system also uses paper-based materials.
Our Poly boxes are made from expanded polystyrene which is fully recyclable. In its moulded form it is 98% air and 2% styrene. Poly boxes can be used with or without a carton, are very light and offer unbeatable insulation qualities at their price level. They are non-toxic and all are made in the UK in our own plants.
Our PE foam liners are made from expanded polyethylene, which is also recyclable. The liners need to be used with an outer carton so the weight of the packaging will be higher, but can be reused more than once. PE foam is non-toxic and we use material made in the UK.
I’m still not sure which is the best solution for my company.
We are more than happy to personally call or visit our customers to discuss your requirements. Simply contact us by phone or email and we will be in touch! |
