Fresh or frozen foods need to be kept within specified temperature ranges during transit. Bulk shipments are often made using refrigerated transport, but for smaller shipments, particularly those using couriers, this is not possible. This is why using temperature controlled packaging is of advantageous, it will help keep products within the correct temperature range, thus making sure your produce arrives fresh and unspoilt.
How many ice packs will I need?
The amount of ice required varies according to several factors, such as outside temperature, time in transit, weight and type of product, packing temperature etc. We are always happy to offer advice for specific situations so please feel free to contact us with your query.
How do I use the absorbent (non hydrated) ice pads & strips?
Our non hydrated ice needs a short soak in fresh water before they can be frozen.
Read our Ice Guide to learn more.

Which size of box should I use?
Our poly box size list details our standard box range. The Poly boxes are described as "6kg" "20kg" etc as these are the traditional terms in the fishing industry, where many of our boxes are used.
The list details both internal and external dimensions of each box. Once you have confirmed the overall size of the products to be shipped, together with an allowance for ice, please check the list to find the nearest size available. Bear in mind that bubble wrap can be used as a void filler if there is not an exact match.
If you are in any doubt about the correct size to use please do not hesitate to contact us for advice. Remember that samples can be ordered from our online shop if you would like to check the size before ordering a larger quantity.
If you do still however require a certain box size that we do not currently offer, please do contact us as we do have manufacturing facilities and subject to order quantities, we may be able to help.

I'd like my boxes branded with my company details. Can you arrange this?
Polystyrene boxes can be personalised with print or labels and we can also offer printed cartons subject to minimum order quantities. Please call or email us for further details.
Are your products environmentally friendly?
We offer two types of temperature controlled packaging. Both are made from materials which are classified as plastics, and one system also uses paper-based materials.
Our Poly boxes are made from expanded polystyrene which is fully recyclable. In its moulded form it is 98% air and 2% styrene. Poly boxes can be used with or without a carton, are very light and offer unbeatable insulation qualities at their price level. They are non-toxic and all are made in the UK in our own plants.
For more information on the environment and the recycling of Expanded Polystyrene have a look at the British Plastics Federation website.
